Puberty
Is it normal for my period to be really irregular when it first starts?
Totally normal! When your period first arrives, it can take up to two years to settle into a regular pattern. Your hormones are still learning their rhythm. If it’s still all over the place after two years, or if you’re having severe pain, that’s worth mentioning to a doctor.
Mental Health
I feel anxious before school every day. Is something wrong with me?
Nothing is wrong with you — school anxiety is incredibly common. Your brain is doing its job, just a bit too enthusiastically. If it’s happening every day and stopping you from doing things you enjoy, that’s worth a conversation with a counsellor.
Body
I’m developing at a different pace than my friends. Should I be worried?
Puberty can start anywhere between ages 8–13 for girls and 9–14 for boys. Everyone has their own unique timeline and that is completely normal. Being earlier or later than your friends doesn’t mean anything is wrong.
Mental Health
How do I know if I’m depressed or just having a bad week?
A bad week is usually tied to a specific event. Depression tends to feel like a heavy fog that doesn’t lift after a couple of weeks, and affects your sleep, appetite, and ability to enjoy things you normally love. If that sounds familiar, please talk to a trusted adult or school counsellor.
Sexual Health
What exactly is consent and how do I know if I have it?
Consent means everyone involved clearly and enthusiastically agrees — it needs to be Freely given, Revocable, Informed, Enthusiastic, and Specific (FRIES). If someone seems unsure or pressured, you don’t have consent. Consent can also be taken back at any time.
Body
Is it normal to sweat way more now than I used to?
Completely normal! During puberty, your sweat glands become much more active. This is why body odour can become more noticeable. A daily shower and a good deodorant or antiperspirant will sort it out.
